Modem stands for MOdulator DEModulator.We all know that our computers only understands the Machine language (0s and1s) i.e Binary language.
How does Modem works?
Suppose we want to open any website
,say www.blogger.com, the modem from the sender's side ( our's side) modulates the digital signal to analog signal because telephone line understand the analog signal. The receiving modem at receiver's place demodulates this analog signal back into digital signal so that the computer can understand the signals. Hence, Modem modulates as well as demodulates the signals. Speed of modem is measured in bps (bits per second). Wireless modems convert digotal data into radio signals and vice-versa.
